Le Favette is a classic Umbrian villa in the very heart of Umbria, just 1.2 miles from Monte Castello di Vibio and 10 miles from world-famous Todi. The property enjoys superb, panoramic views of the Tiber River valley and, in the distance, the medieval walls and towers of Todi
The classically-restored stone farmhouse consists of 360 square meters with 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms on three floors. Three different entrances open onto terraces and the spacious grounds.
The ground floor has a formal entrance hall that opens into a large living room with a fireplace, a dining room with French doors leading to the garden, a modern, recently renovated kitchen with a fireplace and large pantry, a small bedroom, a bathroom with shower and a TV room with French doors leading to the porch.
On the first floor, there is a large central living room and four bedrooms (two with en suite bathrooms) and a separate bathroom. On the second floor, which is accessed via an exterior staircase, there is an independent studio apartment with a kitchenette, a bathroom with shower, and a private terrace. All windows of the house are double glazed, and the radiators are controlled by thermostats.
The house is surrounded by 5500 square meters of gardens and mature trees. The beautiful curved pool, with a 14-meter swimming lane and outdoor shower, is surrounded by flower beds, two small, natural lakes and a spacious stone terrace with stunning views of Todi and the green hills of Umbria.
Hidden beyond the pool are 15 thermal solar panels and a series of photo-voltaic panels (2.54 Kwp capacity) that heat water both for domestic use and the pool. The villa is heated by a wood pellet boiler that is supplemented by a wood-burning stove for spring and autumn.
The property is connected to the municipal water supply but also has a deep well which supplies water for the garden and surrounding land throughout the summer
Surrounding the property are 4.5 hectares of land with vegetable gardens, 400 olive trees, 5,000 square meters of vineyard, and a golf course with four fairways and 3 greens providing 12 challenging 3-par and 4-par holes. The owners are retired physicians and ready to downsize to spend more time in the UK. However, they would like for a few more years to live in the villa, so fractional ownership gives them the opportunity to share their vacation home with others.
David and Jenny Anderson
Many years ago, we fell in love with the green hills of Umbria and, in 2002, bought Le Favette for family vacations, finally retiring here in 2006. Now, after 10 memorable years in our beloved country house, we would like to begin spending more time in the UK without pulling up our Italian roots all at once. That's why we find fractional ownership such an appealing option for selling Le Favette. We can share our wonderful Umbrian home with others while continuing to enjoy it with our family and friends.
We are both doctors who grew up in England and worked for many years in Manchester before moving to Hong Kong where we lived for 14 years. We have three sons, six grandchildren, and two gentle, lovable dogs.
David qualified in medicine at St Andrews University in Scotland and was Professor of Endocrinology and Honorary Visiting Professor of Medicine at the University of Manchester and Professor of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In addition to papers on a wide range of medical subject, he has published an extensive medical teaching film series.
Jenny was a general practitioner in Manchester....
David has developed a 3-green, 4-fairway golf course that plays as 12 holes (just add 50% to your score for the 18-hole equivalent). He has dubbed his course the "Monte Castello di Vibio Country Club" and tees off every Sunday morning. A tip: stay out of the olive trees!
We have always been avid collectors of art, and Le Favette has become a kind of rustic museum for the works we have collected over the years.
In 2001, David turned his critical eye to jade, eventually amassing a world-class collection of Chinese jade with a particularly important representation of Hongshan carvings. After more than 10 years of scientific investigation into the geology, history and culture of Chinese jade, He published "Hongshan Jade Treasures" a book on the art, iconography and authentication of Hongshan and nephrite jade, including nearly 350 color illustrations.
We love the rolling hills of Umbria and never tire of our exhilarating view of Todi. The spire of San Fortunato Church provides a stunning skyline, and the beautiful colours as the sun sets on the town rival the winter days when the town floats on swirling clouds. We adore Monte Castello di Vibio, our local medieval town. Its tiny theatre is said to be the smallest working theatre in the world, and the town, like many towns throughout central Italy, holds a medieval festival every summer called the "Sagra dell'Agnello Scottadito" (Festival of Lamb Cutlets) .
Our property has 400 olive trees and both red and white grapes, which we bottle for own consumption and will be shared with our fellow owners. Our caretakers. Danilo and Helena, live here on the property and work the land and look after the chickens. Helena produces some delicious vegetables.
Your own private golf course
OK. It’s not a place to hone your handicap. But walking to the tee box at cocktail hour, setting up to keep your tee shot out of the olive grove on the first par 4, is ridiculously fun.
Chez (don’t know the Italian word) Fauvette (picture of the wine label)
You’ll make and bottle your own wine right on the property, of course with the help of ___ Fauvette’s wonderful caretakers.
Ristorante ___
This gem of a restaurant not five minutes away, owned by our lovely friends __ and__ looks forward to preparing your first meal. They make a ___ that’s out of this world!
Tour de Todi
For you bikers, there’s a wonderful 10 kilometer ride to Todi (that can easily be expanded to 20 or 30) that takes you right to the terrace of Caffe __ for a cappuccino and__ before you return home.
